Broken Metal Gate Hinge or Sagging Gate: Weld or Replace? Fair Price
Why
Gates sag because a hinge wears out, a post leans, or the frame racks out of square. Welding on heavier hinges and adding a diagonal brace fixes most of them.
Before anybody welds, check the post. If the post is leaning or rotted at the base, a new hinge just sags again.

Cost to replace instead
Weld-on or bolt-on gate hinges and latches are usually inexpensive hardware (estimate: roughly $15–$80 per hinge/latch set; check current prices). Replacing the whole gate costs far more than fixing hinges.
DIY or hire a pro?
Bolt-on hinges and latches: easy DIY. Weld-on hinges on a heavy driveway gate: you need to support the gate's weight while you weld and hold alignment. That's a two-person job. Most people are better off paying a pro for an hour.
🚩 Ripoff red flags
- Selling a whole new gate when only the hinges or latch failed.
- Welding new hinges on without checking or fixing a leaning post.
